Name: Michael Weinheimer
Age: 46
Birthday: 12/05/1964
Country: United States of America
Affiliated Party: Libertarians
About Me
Best President: Thomas Jefferson, Warren Harding
Worst President: Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush
My #1 Issue: Retaining and restoring freedoms
Direction For Country: Towards personal and fiscal freedom.
Short Platform
"This country is a one-party country. Half of that party is called Republican and half is called Democrat. It doesn't make any difference. All the really good ideas belong to the libertarians." -- Hugh Downs on Politically Incorrect (March 31, 1997)

"The more taxes you pay, the fewer rights you have." -- Maditude

"Just think how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are even stupider!"
--George Carlin

More About Me
The Quiz

The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

Conservative/Progressive score: 7
You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 3
You're a Capitalist Purist. You believe that the market should be completely free, and that the invisible hand of the market will make sure that the people get what they want and will do it in the most efficient way possible. You believe in small government, less taxes, and more privatization.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 0
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 0
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Hardcore Libertarian

I am interested in politics and sports (especially hockey). My interest in politics started when I worked for the US Postal Service. One day I heard Harry Browne give a speech on C-Span. He asked "Would you give up your favorite federal program if it meant you would never have to pay Federal Income Tax again?"
The defining moment of my political leanings was during a debate against Bob Dole and Bill Clinton. Both candidates wanted to spend and make government larger. It was then that I became a Libertarian. MADITUDE'S PLAN: As president, I will maintain a high standard of ethics. 1)I have no right to spend money I don't have to spend. It's the people's money and I will remember that at all times.*** 2) I will maintain openness and shall refrain from ant activity that appears to be shady.*** 3)I will act like a leader by maintaining a high ethical standard.*** 4) I will not sign into law any law I wouldn't want enforced on myself either as president or as citizen.

What I Would Do As President
You Are a "Don't Tread On Me" Libertarian
You distrust the government, are fiercely independent, and don't belong in either party.
Religion and politics should never mix, in your opinion... and you feel opressed by both.
You don't want the government to cramp your self made style. Or anyone else's for that matter.
You're proud to say that you're pro-choice on absolutely everything!

I would privatize or abolish the non-Constitutionally essential agencies (FDA, IRS, BATF, CDC, etc.) I would also veto any law that would restrict freedom for Americans.

Taxes:
Since I would privatize or abolish the agencies listed above, all revenues required for a Constitutionally essential government could be raised by excise taxes. This means there would be no need for an income tax.

Foreign Policy:
My first step in foreign policy will be to see whether the United States should still belong in such organizations like the UN, NATO, etc. I would also renegotiate NAFTA, CAFTA, and other trade agreements. Because all life is precious, I would only use our troops if America's freedom and liberty were at stake. I would pull our troops out of Iraq as soon as possible.

War:
My take on wars is that it's "pawns killing pawns" while the kings wine and dine at the castle. The only difference between the soldier on one side and the soldier on the other is the tyrant ordering him to kill.

Social Security:
I would privatize Social Security and make it voluntary. Having the government mandate that people invest 7.5% of their income in a retirement plan with the worst yield of return is insulting. Social Security is destined for doom because neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are taking it seriously. The money to pay for Social Security benefits will come from the selling of Federal public parks (preferably to organizations dedicated to the environment) and selling unneeded Federal buildings.

Social Spending:
A relatively small percentage of federal spending is on social programs. My problem with social spending is that on overwhelming percentage of monies allocated for social spending is wasted on overhead. (It was 83% as of FY 2003) My solution is to abolish social spending all together and have people give to local agencies that help the needy. Although fewer people would give, those who do give would give more because they would have more to give since there would no longer be an income tax.

Abortion: I am pro-life.
If one's right to live is not protected, then all other rights become moot. The patRIOT Act and HR 1955 prove this point.

Capital Punishment:  I am against capital punishment, but I also oppose the "country club" mentality fostered in prisons.  Those who commit a capital crime deserve a lifetime of isolation with a diet consisting of bread and water.  Conjugal visits would no longer be allowed.

Civil Rights:  The only way we can assure rights for all Americans is to write laws that protect the civil rights of all Americans.

Education and Health Care:
I link these two issues because of their common bond: The more government gets involved, the worse it gets and the more it costs. We have to quit giving money away blindly and hold people accountable. We are nine trillion dollars in debt and will continue to escalate the debt until people are held accountable for the spending.

Immigration:
We should welcome with open arms people who want to work in the United States. The handouts, however, will cease if I am elected.

Commonwealth Status:
I would abolish the current Commonwealth Status. I would have Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and Palau hold elections on whether they want statehood or independence. I would respect their decision either way.

Gay Marriage:
Two consenting adults should have the right to live in the manner they choose as long as it doesn't interfere with another person's right to live in the manner which he or she chooses.

War on Drugs:
The "War on Drugs" is a waste of money and has interfered with the rights of law-abiding citizens for too long. It's time for the War on Drugs to end and replace it with education and social peer pressure.

Daylight Saving Time
It is time we end the archaic practice of "springing forward" and "falling back." We could stay in Daylight time year-round, Standard time year-round, or we could have a hybrid where we would set our clock halfway between Daylight and Standard time. I wrote a paper about it for a Composition class a few years ago. If you'd like to read it, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a copy.

The Debt and the Deficit:
Congress is responsible for spending out money wisely. Both parties have failed miserably at it. My plan has the Congresspeople solely responsible for paying back the debt. This plan will take effect on January 20, 2009 for any deficit to the budget they add after that date. I am realistic enough to know that the congress can't pay back the $18 billion of debt per senator and representative, but somebody has to hold them accountable,

Global Warming:
The Earth has had warm periods and cooling periods since the beginning of time. We got out of the Ice Age long before the Industrial Revolution. Just because we are at the warmest ever, doesn't mean there is anything we can do about it. US factories are not the primary culprit because we have tough anti-pollution laws and we make fewer products. China has a ton more factories and Mexico City seems to be under a haze of perpetual smog.
